(05) - Dinxperlo (NL) / Suderwick (D)

Travelling from German Bocholt (Westfalia) in north-western direction, you reach little Suderwick after 4.5 miles, frontier town with Dutch Dinxperlo. From the end of WW II in 1945 until 1963 Suderwick as well was part of Holland; in August 1963 (following the Dutch-German Treaty) Suderwick becomes German again and the old borderline is re-established. In 1996 customs control/check points and border gates disappear.

   Dinxperlo (NL) / Suderwick (NL):

Dinxperlo (NL) and Suderwick (DE) are one built-up area, yet in two countries and two linguistic areas.

   Dinxperlo (NL) / Suderwick (NL):

The 'Hellweg' marks the (nowadays) invisible borderline. German street sign and Dutch KPN-telephone box (light green).

   Dinxperlo (NL) / Suderwick (NL):

Going abroad? Just cross the street and you are in a foreign country.

   Dinxperlo (NL) / Suderwick (NL):

Right in front of this Dutch telephone box is the borderline. Customs control and border patrol have disappeared though.
